As the United States designated The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy organisation of Lashkar-e-Taiba, as a Foreign Terrorist Organisation (FTO), China on Saturday condemned the 22 April terror attack in Pahalgam, calling for greater regional cooperation to counter terrorism and ensure stability.

“China firmly opposes all forms of terrorism and strongly condemns the terrorist attack,” said Lin Jian, spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

This comes weeks after the Indian Army deputy chief said that China helped Pakistan with real-time intel on Indian positions during the India-Pakistan conflict. “Pakistan had live updates of our vector positions courtesy of China,” said Lt. Gen Singh.

Pahalgam terror attack and what followed

In a statement issued by the US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, it was acknowledged that the TRF claimed responsibility for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians. The US, thus, accorded the TRF as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT) as well.

This comes after US President Donald Trump repeated claims of having a role in facilitating the India-Pakistan ceasefire following Operation Sindoor. However, PM Modi set the record straight and denied any third-party intervention.

During the time of the India-Pakistan distress, it was found that China helped Pakistan with real-time intel on Indian positions during Operation Sindoor, revealed the Indian Army Deputy chief. “Pakistan had live updates of our vector positions courtesy of China,” said Lt. Gen Singh at a defence conference earlier this month.

The Pahalgam terror attack was the deadliest attack on civilians in India since the 2008 Mumbai attacks conducted by LeT. TRF has also claimed responsibility for several attacks against Indian security forces, including most recently in 2024.
