Singer Zubeen Garg died in Singapore on September 19, reportedly after suffering an epileptic seizure while swimming, a condition he had battled for years. As his final journey began, his three beloved dogs bid him farewell in a deeply emotional moment that gained significant traction on social media. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared the video on social media, where it struck a chord with millions of his fans.

“It is often said that dogs are a man’s best friend, and if dogs love you, you are a great man,” Assam CM wrote while sharing the video on X (formerly Twitter).

He added, “…For Iko, Diya, Rambo & Maya, Zubeen was their family and today as they bid a final farewell, they must have felt the same emotions which we are feeling now- Heartbroken.”

What does the viral video show?

The now-viral video shows the late singer’s wife, Garima and other family members bringing their four dogs – Iko, Diya, Rambo, and Maya – into the Sarusajai stadium. They were seen carrying them in their arms. One by one, the pets were shown the singer’s face for the last time.

“A few hours left before #BelovedZubeen begins his final journey. A short while ago, I joined his well-wishers at Sarusajai Stadium to pay my tributes. The last 2 days symbolised the love he commands over people. There will never be another Zubeen,” the CM wrote in yet another post.

Second post-mortem

Ahead of his cremation, a second post-mortem was carried out on Tuesday morning at Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) by its doctors in the presence of specialists from AIIMS-Guwahati.

The initial autopsy, which was conducted in Singapore on September 19, mentioned drowning as the cause of death of the 52-year-old singer.

The last rites will be performed with full state honours by his younger sister, Palmee Borthakur. Garg’s body has reached the cremation site, accompanied by about 85 family members, relatives, and close associates.
