US President Donald Trump received a grand red-carpet welcome in Malaysia as he kicked off the first leg of his five-day Asian tour on Sunday. Trump was greeted at Kuala Lumpur International Airport by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim amid a sea of American and Malaysian flags. This visit marks the start of a high-profile diplomatic tour focused on trade and regional stability.
A lively welcome ceremony awaited the US President, complete with traditional dance performances representing Malaysia’s Malay, Chinese, Indian and Borneo indigenous communities. In a video that quickly went viral on social media, Trump joined the festivities and matched steps with local performers at the tarmac. The US President waved his arms in his trademark style and Prime Minister Anwar also joined in.

Diplomatic tour of three nations
The visit marks Trump’s return to major global diplomacy, with Malaysia being the first stop on a three-nation tour that will also include Japan and South Korea. His Asia trip coincides with the ASEAN Summit and a ceremony commemorating an expanded ceasefire agreement between Cambodia and Thailand, which the US helped broker following border clashes earlier this year.
“I am on my way to Malaysia, where I will sign the great Peace Deal, which I proudly brokered between Cambodia and Thailand…To accommodate everyone for this major event, we will sign the Peace Deal immediately upon arrival,” Trump announced on Truth Social before his departure.
Trump-Xi meeting on cards?
After Malaysia, Trump is expected to meet newly elected Japanese Prime Minister Sanao Takaichi in Tokyo and Chinese President Xi Jinping in South Korea. According to some reports, a last-minute meeting is possible between Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un near the Demilitarized Zone.
