A Ukrainian fitness enthusiast, Viktoriia Chakraborty, has sparked conversation on social media after sharing her observations about Indian gyms versus European gyms. Her post read, “I’ve been training in Indian gyms since 2017, and honestly, there are things European gyms should learn from India,” the caption of the post reads.”
Chakraborty highlighted key differences in affordability, community, flexibility, and trainer accessibility in an Instagram reel that has gone viral.
Affordability and Community Vibe Highlighted
In her video, Chakraborty noted that Indian gyms are significantly more affordable than their European counterparts. “You don’t need to spend €50–100 a month like in Europe,” she said, pointing out that even mid-range gyms in India provide full facilities at a fraction of the cost. She also praised the sense of community in Indian gyms, where members interact, share tips, and support each other during workouts, adding that trainers are approachable and often know members by name.
Flexible Hours and Trainer Accessibility Stand Out
Another key point she highlighted was the flexibility offered by Indian gyms. Many gyms open early and stay open late, providing day passes, monthly, or quarterly plans, which cater to students, travelers, and working professionals. European gyms, by contrast, often require yearly contracts that can feel restrictive. She also emphasized the accessibility of trainers in India, who frequently guide members, correct their form, and track progress without charging extra.
Social media reactions have been mixed. One user joked, “The gym trainers only help beautiful ladies. If an uncle goes to ask for help. They will say I am coming in 5 mins, but never come.” Another commented, “Gymming in Australia was a completely different experience than in India.” A third said, “All this only if you are a woman. Trainers will drool over you to train. Ask us boys.” Despite the jokes, many praised Chakraborty for her detailed and thoughtful analysis of the differences between gyms across continents.
