Playback singer Udit Narayan is facing criticism after an old video of him kissing female fans resurfaced online. The clip shows Narayan performing at a concert, with fans crowding near the stage to take selfies. In the video, a woman kisses the singer on the cheek while clicking a photo, and in return, he kisses her on the lips. The 69-year-old singer has come under heavy scrutiny following the circulation of the video.
In response to the controversy, Udit Narayan told Hindustan Times that fans are often overly enthusiastic, suggesting that there may be an “ulterior motive” behind the viral video clips. He explained, “Fans can get so excited. We are not like that, we are decent people. Some fans express their affection this way. Why should we dwell on this?”
Narayan further explained that with large crowds and security personnel present, fans sometimes try to greet performers by extending their hands for handshakes, while others kiss the hands in admiration. “This is all just fan madness. It shouldn’t be given too much importance,” he added.
Suggesting there may be an agenda behind the circulation of the video, Narayan said, “People want controversy to surround my family’s image.”
He went on to mention that the passion of his fans is something he appreciates, adding, “They love me, and I think I should let them be happy.” He emphasized that his public image has always been respectful, and when interacting with fans, he typically greets them with folded hands and a bow.
