TCS news: An individual has claimed that their brother, a long-time employee at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), was not only forced into taking early retirement, but was also not provided with severance pay or any compensation. The person took to Reddit to post about what happened to their brother. This comes hot on the heels of the IT firm’s decision to lay off 2 per cent of its global workforce, which essentially means 12,000 employees.
‘No severance, no compensation’
“TCS employee forced into early retirement after 30 years – No severance pay, no compensation,” claimed the Reddit user, with whom we spoke. The user, who wishes to keep his identity anonymous, added, “No severance, no compensation.”
The incident, which was shared under the “workplace toxicity” tag, stated, “My brother dedicated almost 30 years of his life to Tata Consultancy Services (TCS).”
‘Resign or face termination’
They further alleged that their brother, who was loyal to the company for 30 long years, was given just 20 minutes to make a decision.
“In June 2025, he was called into a meeting and told he was being laid off, had exactly 20 minutes to decide between accepting early retirement or facing termination,” it further claimed.
The Reddit user further alleged that TCS failed to provide a “proper notice” or engage in meaningful discussions, leaving their brother with little to no time to assess his options.
“So, why was my brother given zero severance back in June, when he was forced into early retirement under extreme time pressure?” the Reddit user “silver_traveller” asked.
They added that their brother, who is 50 years old, now faces limited job prospects in a market that is unfavourable to seasoned professionals. “[He] now faces minimal employment opportunities in a market that does not favour experienced professionals at this stage of life.”
“This is not about corporate ideology – it’s about one company’s decision to treat a long-serving employee without the dignity or fairness that should be standard after 30 years of work,” the Reddit user concluded their post.
“Silver_traveller”, in the comments section of the post, explained that their brother opted for an early retirement to avoid a “dirty termination letter”. They also said that the person graduated from a tier-1 engineering college.
“His contract retirement by age was 60, so he still had a substantial run left,” they further informed.
TCS denies the allegations
FinancialExpress.com reached out to TCS for a comment. The IT firm has denied the allegations made by the Reddit user. “The misinformation quoted by an anonymous user on Reddit, which is the source of your article, is absolutely incorrect and false,” TCS said in a statement to FinancialExpress.com.
We, however, have spoken to the Reddit user who wishes to maintain his anonymity.
Massive protests against TCS
Several IT and ITeS employees took to the streets on September 5 against forced resignation and illegal termination at TCS. The protests took place in Noida and Kolkata and were organised by All India IT and ITeS Employees’ Union (AIITEU).
While sharing the pictures from the protests, AIITEU wrote, “TCS Stop Retrenchment or the resistance will grow louder.”
One of the banners used by the protestors urged employees not to resign. It said, “Don’t resign.”

‘Save loyalty for family’: Furious Redditors
“That’s the way it is in India. Better to focus on oneself and not give a damn about loyalty. Just save loyalty for yourself and family,” one Reddit user said.
Another asked, “Early retirement, as in quitting?? Will he be eligible for any kind of pension or something?”
“He should have accepted being fired. Finding another job is difficult either way. He would have got a severance instead and an opportunity to file a case,” suggested a third.
A fourth posted, “TCS is the leader of the WITCH companies. Many toxicities in these companies originated from TCS. And people who are sitting in TCS for 20-30 years are definitely the ones who either started or propagated these practices.”
“By law, he should be eligible for gratuity. That itself would be a huge amount IMO,” read yet another comment.
