An Indian “crypto visitor” flew to Argentina for an international conference this past week, according to a life update he shared on X Friday. His international arrival went viral on the Internet, but for all the wrong reasons possible, as he was hit with a barrage of racist comments in the virtual interaction thread.
In a merely days old tweet, he wrote, “Argentina I’m in you. Frens let’s connect before @EFDevcom.”
The Indian man and crypto enthusiast in question goes by ‘Thiru.eth’ on the Elon Musk-led social media platform. According to his Linktr.ee and LinkedIn profiles, he is based in Chennai and his name is Thirumurugan Sivalingam.
His SNS profiles further confirm that the youngster is attached to a company called Metis in the ‘Developer Relations’ capacity. If you check his most recent social media activity on X as of November 17, you will find that a plethora of warmhearted messages have now flooded his profile, with any mentions of “racist” remarks almost nowhere to be found.
While that may be a valid cause for confusion, recent comments from people who had already witnessed trolls subjecting Thirumurugan to online racists attacks confirm everything unfortunate he had to face. The Chennai man himself took to his platform and affirmed he was “still standing after the flood of racist comments” on his original post about arriving in Argentina.

Not taking those comments to heart.
Thanks to my friends and brothers for checking on me.
And for all those racists: Thanks for 800k+ views. Never thought I would see that on my account. pic.twitter.com/QD7H4z2xFG
At the time of writing, Thiru.eth’s original post had already amassed nearly 13 million views.
Another rather viral post shedding light on what befell the Chennai man read, “An Indian man simply greeted people after arriving in Argentina for a conference and was suddenly hit with a wave of racist comments from the usual American online trolls. Thankfully, real Argentinians stepped up, called out the racism, and didn’t let the hate ruin this person’s mood.” This particular tweet by ‘MeruOnX’, in turn, had gained over 2 million views on Monday.
US vs Argentina debate over Indian man’s post
Meru’s social media rant immediately incited a heated debate over who was “more racist” among Americans and Argentinians. While one side argued that Americans were responsible for initiating the hate train, the other claimed that Argentinians had come out even louder with their disturbing comments.
Several comments like “Do you know how racist u have to be for ARGENTINIANS to tell you to stop???” flooded the comments or the re-post section.
Another person chimed in, “The concept of Argentines being the good guys in a racism story is amazing.” And a third post said, “There is no country on the planet more racist than Argentina.”
However, Meru’s post wasn’t entirely untrue, as many Argentinians (or at least Spanish) had in fact come to the Indian man’s rescue. Carlos Maslaton, a user with a Spanish name, wrote, “That’s correct, Meru. We simply do not accept any kind of racism and discrimination in Argentina. Those few miserables that insulted the Indian crypto visitor are rejected by 99% of our population. You are always welcome and thank you very much for coming.”
After my recent posts, local builders have been coming up to me on the street and at events, offering support and telling me I'm welcome here. The online support has been tremendous too. More such comments trickled in, as another read, “Thiru, welcome to Argentina and thank you for coming! Argentina is a great place to be, live and build. Hope you love it. As you may see, like in every country, we have idiots too. But don’t worry, they’re only scattered here on X, you won’t get this in real life!!” Someone else said, “Welcome, brother. Ignore the idiots in the comments!”
Indian ‘crypto visitor’ in Argentina – Locals mount support
As more and more positivity overtook the suggested racist attacks on the Indian man’s X profile, Thiru went on to share that he had enjoyed his time overseas.
“So I got to hang with this legend in Argentina. He’s a super talented builder who participated in some hackathons for @0G_labs and an absolute chill guy,” a presumed local penned his thoughts, sharing a memory snap of his outing Thiru and a few others.
His lengthy post about skin colour not defining someone’s worth added, “The amount of love this guy is receiving after all the hatred is truly inspirational. Argentina is built different, very kind people. People stopping us in the streets and giving him invites to their place and to events and stuff.”
A podcast banner possibly backing an event in Argentina welcomed the Chennai native, saying, “Our events are renowned for bringing the best people in the industry together and we’re looking forward to hosting you at Verifying Intelligence on the 19th, Thiru.”
In a similar post visible on the Indian man’s profile, he revealed that his recent posts had encouraged “local builders” to come up to him on the streets and at events. Now having gained instant internet fame, Thiru said people had given him overwhelming support, while asserting that he was “welcome” in the South American country.
“The online support has been tremendous too. I’m really grateful for all of this,” he confessed. “A lot of opportunities have come from it – definitely a silver lining. If you’re around at @EFDevcon, let’s connect!”
As established by his posts, Thiru flew abroad to attend Devconnect ARG, the first Ethereum World’s Fair. According to its official website, the event serves as a “showcase of real apps, not just talks, 75+ showcasing projects, 40+ events at the main venue and across Buenos Aires, and 15,000 expected attendees.”
The global showcase is scheduled to be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, from November 17 to 22, 2025.
Surge of anti-Indian racism on X
“The hate for Indian people online is off the charts. It’s actually crazy and sad. They also get no sympathy from anyone, not even other Indians,” a user said on X.
Key findings of the Center for the Study of Organized Hate’s report titled ‘Anti-Indian Racism on X (July-September 2025)’ stated, “680 high engagement anti-Indian racist posts on X garnered 281.2M views between July 1 and September 7, 2025.” On top of that, 121 posts, making for 17.8%, used anti-Indian slurs and attracted 74.3 million views during this period.
“Around 65% of posts were US-centered, confirming the US as the epicenter of anti-Indian digital racism during the study period,” the analysis looking into a dataset of 680 posts on the SNS platform targeting Indians and Indian-origin communities added.
