A viral video from the 2025 US Open has shocked fans after a man snatched a signed cap from a young boy that tennis player Kamil Majchrzak had signed. The man was later identified as Piotr Szczerek, a Polish businessman and CEO of paving company Drogbruk, who has since been facing a strong backlash online.

The incident happened after Majchrzak’s thrilling five-set win over ninth seed Karen Khachanov in the US Open. While signing autographs, Majchrzak took off his hat and tried to hand it to a young boy in the stands. Before the boy could collect it, Szczerek snatched the cap and handed it to his wife, who put it in her bag. The boy protested, saying, “What are you doing?”, but the businessman ignored him.

Online backlash

Szczerek, who is reportedly a millionaire CEO, was caught in the act on the live broadcast, post which social media users quickly identified him. Reports suggest that he later deactivated his accounts after the massive online backlash, but the criticism only grew stronger. Instead of fading away, his actions attracted more attention.

Did the CEO put out the statement? What did it say?

According to Reddit posts cited by TOI, a statement attributed to Szczerek appeared on the Gowork platform, though it is not confirmed if he actually wrote it.

A twitter (X) handle @FearedBuck shared the CEO’s alleged statement which stated, “Yes, I took it. Yes, I did it quickly. But as I’ve always said, life is first come, first served… If you were faster, you would have it… I remind you that insulting a public figure is subject to legal liability. All offensive comments, slander, and insinuations will be analyzed for the possibility of taking the matter to court.”
