US President Donald Trump was recently seen sporting a new winter look that caught many eyes and sparked discussions online.

Over the weekend, during his walk to Marine One, he donned a plush burgundy scarf paired with an oversized black overcoat, a style that quickly drew comparisons to New York City mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani’s signature fashion.

Social media users on platform X were quick to notice the resemblance and speculated that Trump might be channelling Mamdani’s style, days after the two held talks at the White House.

‘Start of a new fashion era’

Several users on X joked about Trump’s transformation, with one calling it “the start of a new fashion era”.

One user complimented Trump’s new style, calling it the “best outfit” worn by him so far, while another called him a “copy cat”.

“It’s called the Mamdani. Trump dressed up for his crush,” another user commented.

Trump-Mamdani bromance

This new fashion moment arrived shortly after an unexpected White House meeting between Trump and Mamdani on Friday.

During their sit-down, the two discussed important urban issues such as the affordability crisis in New York City, with Trump expressing a willingness to support Mamdani’s efforts for the city.

Trump even dismissed earlier Republican criticisms of Mamdani and said he would like to see Mamdani succeed in his city leadership role.

Trump’s team and some allies had labelled Mamdani a communist. A reporter also asked Trump if he felt he was “standing next to a jihadist” in the Oval Office, quoting Republican Congresswoman Elise Stefanik, who is mounting a run for governor of New York state.

“No I don’t,” Trump quickly replied to the reporter.

“You say things sometimes in a campaign…she’s a very capable person,” Trump told the reporter, referring to Stefanik.

Trump’s body language too appeared to be calm, supportive and even enthusiastic about Mamdani as the two men appeared before cameras, unlike his previous aggressive tone seen with foreign leaders, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Mamdani reciprocates Trump’s gesture

Mamdani appreciated Trump’s positive tone, expressing eagerness to collaborate with him on shared goals for New York City despite political differences.

“We spoke about rent, we spoke about groceries, we spoke about utilities. We spoke about the different ways in which people are being pushed out. I appreciated the time with the president, I appreciated the conversation, and I look forward to working together to deliver that affordability for New Yorkers,” Zohran Mamdani said as per CNN.
