Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming film King is getting bigger day by day. The action thriller directed by Siddharth Anand is being called one of the biggest and costliest action movies ever made in India, according to a report by Bollywood Hungama.
The movie’s budget is around Rs 350 crore, not including the extra money SRK and his team will spend on promotions and other expenses.
“King started as an action thriller with an extended cameo from SRK, with Sujoy Ghosh as the director. The initial budget was Rs 150 crores only, but the script had scope to go bigger and better,” the entertainment news website reported quoting a source.
Interestingly, when Siddharth Anand came on board, things changed. He and SRK decided to make it on a much larger scale, with huge, never-before-seen action sequences. “SRK is a producer who loves to spend and treat the audience with the richest visuals on spectacle. He gave Sid a free hand, and the director came back with a budget of Rs 350 crores,” the source said.
A global film made in India
It further mentioned that SRK was amazed by Anand’s ideas. “King is a global film made in India. What costs millions of dollars in Hollywood, Siddharth is planning to achieve here at one-fifth the cost,” it added.
The teaser for King was unveiled on November 2, as a surprise treat for fans celebrating Shah Rukh Khan’s 60th birthday.
Suhana Khan’s big-screen debut
The film will feature six massive action sequences – three filmed on real locations and three on specially built sets. A major highlight of the movie will be SRK’s grand introduction scene, which has been given a big budget on its own. Produced by Gauri Khan and Mamta Anand, King is set to release in 2026.
The movie will also mark the Bollywood debut of SRK’s daughter, Suhana Khan and will reunite the superstar with Deepika Padukone, after their many successful films together.
The film features a stellar cast, including Deepika Padukone, Abhay Verma, Arshad Warsi, Abhishek Bachchan, Jaideep Ahlawat and Raghav Juyal. Rumours also suggest that Rani Mukerji, Anil Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, Saurabh Shukla, Akshay Oberoi and Karanvir Malhotra will be part of the ensemble.
