While Ranveer Allahabadia found himself at the centre of another controversy, Bollywood actors Shahid Kapoor and Salman Khan faced backlash for their comments on Operation Sindoor. Shared on the official account, the posts came in support of the military effort but was not received well by citizens. Allahabadia and Salman deleted the post shortly after as Shahid turned off the comments.

Ranveer Allahabadia controversial post

No stranger to internet trolling, Ranveer deleted the post that stated he might receive hate from Indians. Addressing the audience as “Dear Pakistani Brothers & Sisters” he wrote,” Just like many Indians, I don’t have hate in my heart for you. Many of us want peace as well. Whenever we meet Pakistanis, you invariably welcome us with love. But… your country is not run by a government. It is run by your military and your secret service (The ISI). The average Pakistani is VERY different than these 2 bodies. The average Pakistani has dreams of peace & prosperity in their hearts. These 2 villains have hurt your economy since independence. They have also constantly been responsible for terrorist attacks in India.”

He went on to list down proofs linking Pakistan with terrorism and how they were responsible for the Pahalgam terror attack. Blaming the media of both the countries, he said that they were “spreading lies”. His statement which drew most flak was “Dil se sorry agar lagra hai ki hum nafrat faila rahe hai.” (I feel sorry from my heart that we are spreading hate.)

Soon after netizens lashed out, the post was taken down. However, the outrage went beyond Instagram as screenshots are still making the rounds on X and other platforms. His “sympathy” towards Pakistanis was called an insult to the armed forces in India.

Salman Khan silence on Op Sindoor

Actor Salnman Khan’s post on X took netizens by surprise. Following the US intervention, he wrote “Thank God for the ceasefire…” The post was soon met with several comments questioning Khan’s silence on latest precision strikes in Pakistan.

Shortly afterwards, the post on X was deleted. While a user did come to his defence, Salman’s last post was observed on April 22 after the Pahalgam attack.

Shahid Kapoor’s post edit

Among several Bollywood actors who expressed their support of Operation Sindoor, Shahid Kapoor took to social media as well. In a post that read “India doesn’t provoke. But India never forgets.” was followed by the emoji of the Indian tricolor. It was later noticed that the post had been edited with just the flag emoji. However, soon afterwards, the comment section was disabled.

Netizens have found statements from the people in the entertainment industry essential to shape public opinion. While they are expected to be prompt and reliable, sometimes silence can have an effect too.
