Bengaluru’s traffic has long been a sore point for residents, often taking a toll on both mental and physical health. For many who leave the city, the change brings a sense of relief. One such example is a software engineer working at Uber, who said that leaving Bengaluru led to a noticeable shift – she not only felt lighter and healthier, but it also improved her productivity at work.
“A small career + life update – I moved from Uber Bengaluru to Uber Hyderabad earlier this year,” wrote Shreya Prasad on LinkedIn, adding that it has been one of the “better decisions” she made for herself.
‘Mental energy drained in Bengaluru’
Prasad, reflecting on her time in Bengaluru, said that every day things in the city were draining her mental energy and she only realised it after leaving the city.
“I didn’t realise how much mental energy was being drained by everyday things until they were gone: potholes on the road, absurd travelling time for short distances, waiting hours to get a cab booked, insane traffic, hard water, low quality food & healthcare, expensive cost of living, and lack of sunlight,” she went on to list.
‘Better health, sharper focus at work’
Prasad, who works at Uber, said that Hyderabad offers a calmer environment in comparison to Bengaluru, and that change has had a positive impact on her overall well-being.
“Hyderabad is calmer. That has translated into better health, more energy, and sharper focus at work,” she further said.
Prasad also acknowledged that the Silicon Valley of India gave her a lot professionally, but Hyderabad has helped her achieve a healthier balance between work and personal life.
“Sometimes growth isn’t about changing roles, it’s about changing environments,” she summed up in her LinkedIn post.
‘Can’t agree more…,’ say LinkedIn users
Her LinkedIn post gained a lot of traction on social media, with many flocking to the comments section of the post to share their thoughts.
“Congrats, Shreya! Can’t agree more on the better life quality in Hyderabad. The best part about it is that the city is not just a concrete layer with high-rise buildings but a good balance of natural hills and buildings in between. Couldn’t resist sharing this picture that makes it more evident 🙂 It’s from my recent visit to Hyderabad,” said one LinkedIn user.
Another added, “Though I accept a few things like traffic, potholes, and cab booking problems. Lack of sunlight, low-quality food, etc., seriously!”
“That’s the precise reason we migrated from Bangalore to Hyderabad over 6 years back. Hyderabad is simply much better than Bengaluru,” commented a third.
A fourth declared, “Hyderabad is way better than Bangalore.”
“100% true—and that’s exactly why I’d never want to move back to Gurgaon or any other city,” expressed a fifth.
