An Indian woman living in the United States posted a light-hearted rant about the not-so-glamorous reality of maintaining a large home in the country. In her Instagram video, she jokes about the endless chores that come with her picture-perfect house.

“It looks so beautiful, right? Itna acha ghar hai, but look at this,” she can be heard saying in the video. Next she reveals the sprawling spaces that require regular maintenance. “The maintenance, oh my God. Isko safai karne baitho, summer me grass kaatne baitho, winter me snow hatate baitho…it is a pain. A big house is a pain (The maintenance, oh my God. You sit down to clean it, in summer you have to cut the grass, in winter you have to remove the snow.)”

The woman later breaks into a song from Amitabh Bachchan’s film ‘Baghban’, “Baghon ke har phool ko apna samjhein baghban.” “Big house, big pain. Thanks to my unpaid Bagbaan,” she captioned the video.

‘I want this pain in my life’ – Netizens react

Reactions poured in on the video which has over 1.3 lakh views. Some viewers empathised with her leafy burdens. “Such a true thing,” wrote one user, recalling their own half-acre plot that demanded mowing, pest control and even concrete repainting. Another said, “Why get rid of leaves? They look amazing in fall!”

Others saw the humour in her complaints. “I want this pain in my life,” one comment read, while another wrote, “I do not like such a life…I love being in India.”

‘Privileged complaining’?

Among the social media commentators were some realists who didn’t shy away in expressing themselves. “Hire somebody to clean it,” suggested one comment. Another netizen wrote, rather bluntly, “Privileged complaining.” Still, many simply admired the visuals, calling them “aesthetic” and dream-like.

Whether sympathising, teasing or philosophising, many netizens overall agreed that behind every picture-perfect American home lies continuous hard work and maintenance.
