Many people in the corporate world are enjoying the Labour Day holiday, also known as International Workers’ Day or May Day. The day, celebrated on May 1, honours the contributions and achievements of workers and the labour movement. However, the irony is that those who truly deserve a break are working. Zerodha co-founder Dilip Kumar took to social media to point this out, expressing, “Irony is now a public holiday.”
“It’s May 1. Labour Day in India,” he started his post on X (formerly known as Twitter) with these words. He added, “The house help came. The cook showed up. The apartment security guard & housekeeping staff are on duty.”
Kumar, who is in his 40s, further added, “Only me and my laptop class friends are taking a break to ‘celebrate labour’.”

The house help came. The cook showed up. The apartment security gaurd & housekeeping staff is on duty. Only me and my laptop class friends taking a break to “celebrate labour.”
Irony is now a public holiday.
His post has clocked over 87,000 views, and numerous people flocked to his comments section to share their thoughts.
“You could have given your househelp and cook an off day proactively,” suggested one social media user. Dilip replied, “I offered, but they refused because other labourers who own 3BHK in the apartment want them to come.”
Another added, “Only (business) owners work on Labour Day!”
“India is full of ironies,” expressed a third.
A fourth asked, “But what are you doing about it?”
“Bro, I am working, I am in my office right now. And my cook and maid didn’t come today morning. What you wanna say on that?” said yet another social media user. To this, Kumar hilariously suggested that the X user should “enjoy the office Internet”.
