What started as a cheeky tweet about Gurgaon’s roads looking like Dubai’s turned into a full-blown desi city battle on X, with Bengaluru, Noida and every keyboard warrior in between screeching into the comment lanes. It all began innocently though.
One user posted on X, “If Bangalore folks saw Gurgaon lanes, they would think they landed in Dubai.” It was meant to be light banter. Instead, it triggered a multi-city roastathon of Olympic proportions. Bengaluru’s netizens, never ones to take a road jibe lying down (especially since they are already lying in traffic), shot back with sharp takes. “Bangalore people can never reach the airport,” one user commented. Another user had something really funny to say. “If dubai folks saw gurgaon lanes, they’d think they landed in Bangalore,” the user commented.
But Gurgaon didn’t come out unscathed either. One unimpressed user declared, “Only the Cyber City lane looks cool. Go into any sector and it feels like a village with no proper roads or cleanliness.” Another chimed in, “Main roads are decent, but once you turn into a sub-lane or service road, it’s worse than Bangalore.” A user, apparently from Noida, commented, “If you said Noida would have still believed…Gurgaon is overhyped.”
Commenting on the poor quality of air in the NCR region, one user wrote, “If Gurgaon folks come to Bangalore they can avoid lung cancer.” We agree with this.
And just when you thought it was a two-horse race, Ranchi and Patna entered the chat. “If Bangalore people saw Ranchi roads, they’d think they landed in Mussoorie,” quipped a user. Another commented, “Wait till they come to Patna.”
Of course, no Indian city roast is complete without invoking the sacred thread of employment. One commenter fired the ultimate career cannon, “Then why the hell do Gurgaon people go to Bengaluru for jobs? What’s the point of smooth lanes when there are no jobs?” Mic, dropped.
The only unifying thread in this digital chaos? Everyone seems to agree that no matter how smooth your roads are, if your job prospects or Uber ETA looks grim, your city still has work to do.
