Popular travel vlogger Anant Mittal, known online as On Road Indian, was detained in China on November 16 following a video he posted in support of an Arunachal Pradesh citizen. The travel vlogger said he detained for approximately 15 hours before Mittal was released and returned safely to India.

In an Instagram post, Mittal shared a detailed account of the distressing experience, emphasising that he has no political affiliations. “I have no hate for anyone. I just love everyone and share this world with you through my eyes. I’m not linked to any political agenda,” he wrote.

Detained at Immigration, Held for 15 Hours

According to Mittal, he was stopped immediately upon entering China, and a sticker on his passport triggered an alert. “An officer escorted me to a detention area, where several other foreign nationals were held. When no one spoke to me for two hours, I realised the situation was serious,” he recounted.

He described hours of uncertainty, with his phone and camera seized to prevent recording. “I’m already back in India safely. I’m not uploading this video under any pressure. I’m just speaking from the heart to everyone. Namaste,” he added. Mittal managed to record portions of his experience using his iPad, which officers had overlooked.

Emotional Account of Fear and Relief

Mittal shared the psychological strain of the detention, noting that he was thirsty, scared, and unsure if he would ever return home. “I’m sorry if I hurt anyone. I’m very small in front of these big powers. I am still crying while writing this caption,” he wrote.

He explained that the detention likely stemmed from a video he made supporting an Arunachal citizen in China. “Hum bahot chhote log hain. Humaari koi aukaat nahi (We are very small people. We have no value at all),” he added, reflecting on the ordeal. Mittal affirmed that he has friends in China and remains a simple travel vlogger without political links.

The vlogger has uploaded the full story on YouTube and urged viewers to understand the situation from his perspective. His experience highlights the challenges travelers may face when engaging in politically sensitive topics abroad.
