A Delhi-based entrepreneur took to Instagram to share how he cleverly handled a bizarre scam attempt by a woman living in a Rs 50 crore bungalow on the posh Lodhi Road. Varun Ghai, founder of the baby clothing brand Mama and Peaches, said the woman tried to swindle him out of Rs 5,000.
Ghai shared that he not only outsmarted her but has turned the very same woman into a loyal customer, and she has since placed eight orders.
Taking to Instagram, Ghai wrote, “Being calm is a superpower,” and “it can make all the difference.” Alongside, he shared a video where he recounted the scam.
“She lived in a Rs 50 crore bungalow at Lodhi Road, and tried to scam us for Rs 5,000. She sent us edited payment snapshots,” said Ghai, asking, “Why would somebody living in Delhi’s most elite neighbourhood dodge us for just Rs 5,000 rupees?”
He then said that the woman was confronted, she denied editing and sending a payment screenshot and later claimed she had not received the package. When the company called her out, she tagged them as “thieves”.
Instead of losing his cool, Ghai said that he decided to take a different approach. He dialled her and said that he was “willing to apologise to her in person”.
“In the next 10 minutes, magically, she found the package and made the payment,” he added.
He revealed that the woman placed eight orders and learnt a lesson. “And so did I. Being calm is a superpower….”
In response to the video, one person expressed, “Love the authenticity in the content….”
“What’s wrong with people?” asked another.
“As a founder, you’ll face daily challenges, and with time, you’ll truly understand the value of this principle. That’s why, in Punjabi, we say, ‘Garmi Khaadi, Maal Paraya’, meaning, ‘Lose your temper, lose your advantage’,” said Ghai in the comments section of his post.
