In yet another instance of Indian-origin individuals being subjected to racist abuse in Canada, a video of a man spewing disturbing comments has gone viral on social media. Captured in a McDonald’s outlet, the clip gaining traction on the Internet this week caught a young man shouting offensive statements at an Indian worker in Oakville.
Amid a streak of anti-Indian graffiti and several other incidents capturing racist rants in Canada, this new incident only adds to the pool of such inflammatory and disturbing cases on the rise.
Viral video: Anti-India racist rant in Canada
In what is now being condemned as yet another “disgusting display of racism in Oakville, a town in Ontario, a white man was seen agressively demanding an Indian-origin worker to go back to the South Asian nation. “Go back to your f***ing country, you stinky a** India,” he’s heard speaking in the viral clip.
Despite being confronted by the person he sought to verbally attack, the man eventually comes closer to the person and reiterates his troubling remarks. Standing too close to the camera, the man is seen brazenly smiling, as he speaks out again, “Go back to your f***ing country.”
As per the voice heard from behind the camera, the now-viral video was presumably recorded by a female employee. Although the Financial Express hasn’t verified the facts independently, the video shows the young man briefly interacting with other male individuals believed to be around his own age. It’s unclear if he was part of the bigger group or acted individually, as some others at the restaurant were pictured smiling while it all transpired.
Gen Z are pissed off. They need hope. Expect more of this. Sad times.

Such “go back to your country” rants in Canada have excessively targeted Indian-origin individuals in recent times. In most cases, the people being attacked have even shared Canadian citizenship.
Further amplifying the video, a page called ‘Rational Posts’ on the Elon Musk-led social media platform called the male “based” for his racist rant. “This kid knows she won’t hire him, why he can’t afford a house, who’s taking the jobs, won’t live 3-4 families per home, has his taxes used to fund his replacement,” the account wrote, while re-sharing the video.
Vivek Seal, an Indian-origin media strategist from Toronto, countered the dialogue, asking, “Do you want your child to behave like this?” While the page said they didn’t hope for that, it also went on to justify the kid’s actions by blaming it on “mass immigration” and the Canadian government for “betraying” him.
As the virtual crossfire got even worse, the page hit back: “I fully support the right for India to be occupied with just Indians. Apparently I’m a racist if I want Canada to be just for Canadians. If I was in India and Indians wanted me gone, I’d self-deport because I’m respectful.”

Rising anti-India hate in Canada
According to a report by the Institute for Strategic Dialogue released this June, police-reported anti-South Asian hate crimes increased by 227% between 2019 and 2023. Moreover, their analysis discovered that social media posts on X containing such slurs rose by more than 1,350% from 2023 to 2024.
Last year, Ashwin Annamalai of Waterloo, Ontario, recorded a similar video as he was being confronted by an unprovoked woman. The lady was heard saying things like, “Indians are taking over Canada,” and “go back to India,” while the Indian-origin man was out for a walk. Within two days of the clip surfacing on X, it garnered over a million views.
Annamalai opened up about having lived in the country since 2018. “I’ve never experienced things of this magnitude before,” he said at the time, as per Canadian news outlet CBC. “My friends, who are people of colour, also seem to regularly go through the same thing in Kitchener-Waterloo.”
Then earlier this year, another man unleashed a racist rant and targeted a group of Indian-origin students. As seen in the video that emerged in January, he labelled them as “refugees,” while mocking them. “Alright, the refugees are here from India. This is Justin Trudeau’s reign. So many Indians,” he said, as he circled around the group and continued hurling insults at the students.
“Look at that. They all come from India. The population is growing. Most of them are from India. Thanks to Justin Trudeau. Yeah, look at that, refugees from India.”
Just this month, a woman was arrested and “charged with Mischief Over $5,000” due to her connection with an anti-India graffiti spelling out “Indian Rats” near a kids’ park in Mississauga.
