A 4.4 magnitude earthquake jolted Jhajjar, Rajasthan, on July 10. Tremors sent shockwaves to Delhi, just 51 km away from the epicentre, while shaking Gurugram, Faridabad, and Ghaziabad. Already underwater, the millennium city of Gurugram faced overnight torrential rains, which triggered intense waterlogging since July 8.
A netizen from Gurugram shared a video on X shortly after the earthquake hit the city. It was a view from a balcony with a heavily waterlogged road underneath. He wrote, “Ghar me earthquake, bahar jao to ye. (Earthquake at home, outside it is this) How will I survive.”

While users online were quick to assume the location as Gurugram, others remained obliviously astonished.

Gurugram waterlogging
Residents called Gurugram an “urban disaster” after receiving just one heavy rainshower that brought their life to a halt. Cars submerged, waist-deep water and traffic-packed roads, the overnight showers became a troublesome time for office goers, residents and visitors alike.
Rush hour traffic did not have mercy on the skyscraper landscape of Gurugram. The roads told a different story as an orange alert quickly turned red. Torrential rain, thunderstorms, and lightning hit Delhi NCR in the late evening of July 9. The overnight downpour blocked several roads as “GurgaonRains” became a mockery on social media.
