A movie franchise based on the popular video game ‘Call of Duty’ would soon be a reality as Paramount Skydance Corporation signed a deal with Microsoft Corporation’s Activision video-game unit. The agreement is to develop and produce a live-action film based on the Call of Duty franchise, a statement from the company read.

A Bloomberg report said that the companies are planning to build a film like Top Gun: Maverick, with high standards for proper viewer consumption.

Company’s statement on ‘Call of duty’ movie plan

“We’re approaching this film with the same disciplined, uncompromising commitment to excellence that guided our work on Top Gun: Maverick, ensuring it meets the exceptionally high standards this franchise and its fans deserve,” said David Ellison, Paramount’s chairman and chief executive officer, as per Bloomberg.

Ellison said he has been a lifelong fan of the franchise and spent “countless hours” playing the game.

Paramount and Activision said they will honour the brand’s “rich narrative and distinctive style” for fans of the video game franchise. The ‘Call of Duty’ is one of the most popular video games in the world, with sales of record hundreds of millions of copies globally, reported Reuters.

Ellison’s big plans for movies

‘Call of Duty’ film is not the only big announcement made by Ellison. According to Bloomberg, he made several deals in recent weeks since acquiring control of Paramount in August. Last month, Paramount signed a seven-year pact valued at $7.7 billion to show Ultimate Fighting Championship matches on its flagship Paramount+ streaming service.

They also signed a deal with the Duffer brothers — creator of Netflix Inc.’s Stranger Things series — to develop and produce theatrical films and TV shows.

Ellison plans to boost film and TV production, aiming for around 20 movie releases in cinemas annually.
