In a series of unusual events, someone in Bihar submitted a rare resident certificate application. However, the name on it was the least of rarities. Applying for residency in Bihar’s Samastipura was an impersonator of US President Donald Trump.

The residence certificate mentioned the name of the applicant as Donald John Trump, along with a photograph of him attached on the application form for the certificate. It also mentioned the name of his father and a suspicious-looking, fake mobile number. The applicant impersonating Trump made the effort to write an email address which said “donaldtrumpofficial@gmail.com”. The purpose of applying for the resident certificate was stated as “voter card”.

Apart from going viral, it was also brought to the attention of Additional District Magistrate Brajesh Kumar. In his statement to the ANI he said that such an attempt was “made through tampering”. Kumar added that the cyber cell was made aware of this incident and an FIR would be lodged.

However, this is not the first time Bihar faced a residence certificate incident. The infamous ‘Dog Babu’ went viral and made headlines in Patna. Similarly, a certificate application was submitted in Nawada under the name ‘Dogesh Babu’ with the photograph of an actual dog attached.

Opposition leader Randeep Singh Surjewala, took this incident to highlight Bihar’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls, as per an ET report. He reportedly called the electoral roll revision was a “complete fraud”, referring to the NGO’s plea seeking a response from the Election Commission about the omission and deletion of the names of 65 lakh voters.

Bihar’s SIR row

The EC initiated a SIR of the electoral rolls in Bihar in July, before the Legislative Assembly. As a part of the reparation efforts, it soon became a controversial move involving additions and deletions on a large scale in the electoral roll. Despite rampant opposition, the final electoral roll is set to be released on September 30.
