Author Abhishek Banerjee has offered a sharp reality check for Indians planning to move abroad in search of better opportunities. He said that those considering Canada or Europe should not assume these places offer the same prospects as the United States.

‘Canada and Europe not same as US’

“Every Indian who dreams of moving abroad should know one basic thing. Canada & Europe are NOT the same as the US,” he said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

He argued that the Western world should not be viewed as a single, uniform entity. “West is not a monolith,” he said, before adding, “Canada & Europe are barely half as rich as the US!”

Banerjee urged Indians not to pursue opportunities in Canada or Europe, calling them economies with limited growth prospects. “Don’t waste time going to Canada or Europe. Stagnant countries with no future. India is poor, but we have a future!”

How did social media users react?

The post, since being shared on December 29, has received over 2.2 lakh views and still counting. Many even took to the comments section of the post to share their thoughts.

“Not everybody moves abroad for more money. Some people also care about a good life, you know,” said one social media user.

Another added, “The US is the best place to earn money and grow in life, especially in the tech sector. Canada and Europe are the places to be happy in life… choose yourselves.”

“Wealth isn’t destiny. Quality of life, mobility, safety, and opportunity vary by person, not just GDP rankings or national hype,” commented a third.

A fourth posted, “Calling Canada and Europe ‘stagnant’ ignores one basic fact: that is quality of life and income stability. The US has higher salaries, but also higher inequality, healthcare risk, and visa uncertainty. Canada and Europe invest more in public health, worker protection, and long-term productivity. Rich is not just GDP. It’s how safe, stable, and predictable life is for an average person.”

“India is poor, but we have a future! If a young, smart generation thinks the USA or other countries have a future for them, maybe they should reconsider and put some extra effort; they can find it in India,” said a fifth.
