Billionaire Jeff Bezos has set a new real estate benchmark in Washington state with the $63 million sale of his lakefront estate in Hunts Point, near Seattle. The Amazon founder, with a net worth of $198.2 billion, finalised the off-market deal for the striking concrete, glass and steel residence just ahead of his much-anticipated wedding to Lauren Sánchez.

The transaction surpasses the state’s previous residential sale record by $3 million, last set in 2020, according to the Robb Report. The timing is especially notable as Bezos prepares for his upcoming nuptials.

From Seattle to Miami

In November 2023, Bezos and Sánchez announced their move from Seattle to Miami. The decision was partly influenced by a desire to be closer to Bezos’ parents, who had returned to Florida—where Bezos himself spent part of his childhood.

A lucrative deal

Bezos purchased the Hunts Point property in 2019 for $37.5 million. The recent sale earned him an impressive $25.5 million profit in under five years—remarkable even by billionaire standards.

The buyer was an LLC linked to Delaware-based Cayan Investments, according to the Puget Sound Business Journal. The confidential nature of the transaction has left many details undisclosed.

The estate was designed by renowned architect Jim Olson of Olson Kundig and originally built in 2003 for late art collector and cruise magnate Barney A. Ebsworth.

Spanning 9,420 square feet with three bedrooms and four bathrooms, the residence sits on over three acres of land with mature trees, rose gardens, and a bamboo grove. The property features 300 feet of waterfront on Lake Washington’s eastern shore and a 2,200-square-foot dock for boats and seaplanes.

Striking interior and luxury features

Inside, the home showcases limestone, hardwood, and poured concrete floors, Venetian plaster walls and expansive glass elements. The floor plan includes a grand entry foyer, formal living and dining areas, dual kitchens, and bedroom wings on opposite ends of the house.

Luxury amenities include a primary suite with a fireside sitting area, dual walk-in closets, a spa room, and a Japanese soaking tub. An elevator connects to a rooftop terrace with a fireplace, and a glass corridor leads to a detached two-story guesthouse.

Bezos’ broader real estate footprint

Despite this sale, Bezos still holds considerable real estate in Washington, including three homes in Medina. Among them is a $10 million property purchased in 1998 and later renovated for $28 million, and the adjacent 30,000-square-foot La Haye estate, bought in 2010 for $45 million.

A shift toward Florida real estate

Bezos has recently focused his property investments in Florida. He owns three waterfront estates on Indian Creek Island—dubbed “Billionaire Bunker”—with a total estimated value of $234 million. His latest acquisition, a $90 million mansion, will serve as his residence while adjacent properties are under development.

A strategic move for the future

Bezos’ decision to sell the Hunts Point estate appears to reflect a broader strategic shift as he enters a new phase in both personal and professional realms.

Florida’s lack of state income tax also offers a major financial incentive. CNBC reports Bezos could save at least $610 million in taxes by establishing Florida residency instead of remaining in Washington.
