All Tim Petit wanted was to surprise his wife with a Donald Trump-themed gift. But what he got was glaring disappointment despite having spent $640 on the limited-edition collector’s item. Call it irony or not, the name of the Rhode Island man’s wife, Melanie, shares near-identicality with the First Lady. And so, it made all the sense in the world that he would want to do something special– with ties to Melania Trump–for his partner, especially since his pick from GetTrumpWatches.com was the pink “Inauguration First Lady” model.

The Trump watch features a bright pink dial and pink bezel with gold tone applied indexes. Boasting its two-tone Bracelet & Case, the website celebrates it “As an exclusive limited edition with only 250 ever made, it’s not just a watch—it’s a unique collectible that celebrates President Trump! The luxurious details and iconic Trump signature make it a standout piece to wear now, while its limited availability creates a treasured keepsake to pass down to your daughter or granddaughter.

GetTrumpWatches now flashes the sold out message for the item, as most other women’s watches are no longer in stock, either. Although Petit achieved the big win of snagging the timepiece before it was no longer available, it might have been better had he not squandered his savings on it.

Trump merch gone wrong

Expecting big smiles upon its arrival, the Donald Trump supporter was instead served a plot twist when he noticed that the watch’s face was missing a hard-to-miss detail. The ‘T’ was absent from the word “Trump,” leaving the pink watch with the blinding “Rump” mistake.

“I’m very disappointed. I wanted to do a special thing for her,” he told NBC affiliate WJAR. “And we expected that it would have the integrity of the president of the United States and good follow-through.”

“How could they process this and go through something without checking their work?” his wife, Melanie, raised the obvious question, while revealing that she cried seeing the arrival, as the surprise turned into a joke they couldn’t laugh at.

Irony makes Trump watch purchase a laughing stock

The Independent reported that even though the website used Trump’s status to sell their inventory, GetTrumpWatches.com clearly established it beforehand than the timepieces are not “designed, manufactured, distributed or sold by Donald J. Trump, The Trump Organisation or any of their respective affiliates or principals.” In hindsight, irony couldn’t have been more a main character in the situation, as a video ad also has Trump’s likeness claiming, “And the quality, to me, is very important.”

The Rhode Island man admitted to having purchased the pink watch for his wife after he noted the “president’s voice hawking the watches.” Knowing that his wife would like something it.”

Tim and Melanie pitched their story to the local news outlet only after GetTrumpWatches.com did not answer to their initial complaint. Once media bumped up the story and reached out to those behind the venture, the website issued an apology and gave the couple an $800 coupon.
