Getting a job and managing to hold on to it is seen as a blessing in today’s competitive job market. With several companies pausing recruitment or implementing hiring freezes, opportunities have become scarce.

In October 2025, the US witnessed a massive wave of job cuts, marking the highest number of layoffs for the month in over two decades. According to data from outplacement firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas, American companies announced 153,074 job cuts, which is a 183% increase* from September’s 54,064 and a 175% rise compared to October 2024.

Amid this uncertainty, a user on TeamBlind shared a post capturing the emotional toll of job hunting in today’s world.

“This market sucks!!!! 600+ applications, 2 referrals and 15+ ghostings. No matter what I do, how much I prep, apply to 10-15 roles every day, nothing is working!!!! I am exhausted and don’t think my career will ever be even 50% of what I started out to do. It’s been a nightmare and no light at the end of the tunnel,” the post read.

‘Network and also apply’

Netizens also posted their stories and opinion on the post. A user noted, ” Are you H-1B? If so, it adds an extra layer of difficulty. Nevertheless, never give up. Network and also apply. Without networking to uncover hidden jobs, you will face a steep hill.” Another added, “Too many H-1Bs in the market. They are on a B visa and not returning to their beautiful home.”

“Networking is not asking friends for a job. It is about strategically reaching out to mostly strangers and build connections with hiring managers to uncover jobs before they are posted. There are many books on guerilla networking. Read them, execute,” claimed another.

“Stay strong man, I am coping that the market will bounce back eventually. I believe in you,” noted another user. “Make sure your resume is ATS compliance so it is picked by the automated systems,” suggested a netizen.
