Shree Ramkrishna Exports (SRK), a global leader in natural diamond crafting and exports, claims to have achieved a milestone in sustainability by reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions per carat by 34% compared to the global industry average. This accomplishment, announced on International Reducing CO2 Emissions Day, according to an official press release.
It has been independently verified by Deutsch Quality Systems (India) Private Limited, a leading ISO certification body. The verification ensures compliance with international standards such as the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, ISO 14064 and ISO 14067.
“Our commitment extends beyond business success; we aim to create a lasting positive impact on the global natural diamond industry. By addressing Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions and now targeting Scope 3, we are building a more sustainable future for our industry and the planet,” Dr. Nirav Mandir, Chief Human Capital & Sustainability Officer, Shree Ramkrishna Exports, said.
As of November 2024, the comapny reported emissions of just 70.49 kgCO2e per carat of natural diamond, setting a new industry benchmark. The company is now focused on further reducing its carbon footprint by expanding the use of renewable energy, particularly solar power, across its facilities, the release mentioned.
The company claims to follow a comprehensive “cradle-to-grave” sustainability strategy, addressing every stage of the diamond lifecycle—from raw material extraction to end-of-life considerations. This approach positions SRK as a pioneer in driving environmentally responsible practices within the industry.
The company is also making progress toward achieving Net-Zero for water, waste, and carbon. Its dedication to sustainability is further exemplified by its LEED Platinum-certified green buildings and its industry-leading number of ISO certifications, underscoring its commitment to quality, environmental responsibility, and health and safety.
