Yashasvi Jaiswal news: India’s young batting sensation Yashasvi Jaiswal has made a shocking move, switching from Mumbai to Goa for domestic cricket due to personal reasons. The decision marks a significant shift for the 23-year-old left-hander, who credits Mumbai as the foundation of his flourishing international career.
Jaiswal formally wrote to the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) on Tuesday, requesting a release, and the governing body has accepted his request. He will now represent Goa from the 2025-26 domestic season.
MCA and GCA Respond to the Move
Confirming Jaiswal’s exit, an MCA official told PTI, “Yes, it is surprising. He must have thought of something to make such a move. He has requested us to relieve him, and we have accepted his request.”
The Goa Cricket Association (GCA) has welcomed Jaiswal with open arms, with GCA secretary Shamba Desai stating that the left-hander could even be considered for captaincy when available.
“He plays for the Indian cricket team, so he can be the captain, and we will work in the direction to appoint him,” Desai said.
Recent Domestic Record
Jaiswal last played for Mumbai in a Ranji Trophy Group A match against Jammu and Kashmir in January 2024, scoring 4 and 26 in a rare defeat for Mumbai. His move to Goa follows a trend of Mumbai cricketers seeking opportunities elsewhere, with Arjun Tendulkar and Siddhesh Lad making similar switches in recent seasons.
Jaiswal’s Rising International Career
Since making his Test debut against the West Indies in July 2023, Jaiswal has cemented his place as India’s first-choice opener, amassing over 52 in Test cricket with four centuries and ten fifties in 19 matches.
