Ayush Shetty, a young and promising badminton player from India, has achieved a big milestone by winning the BWF World Tour Title at US Open 2025. Shetty won the maiden title by beating Canada’s Brian Yang in the men’s singles final of the US Open Super 300 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. 

Shetty, in a spectacular show of his badminton skills, won by 21-18, 21-13 in just 47 minutes. Yang is known for his powerful jump smashes, but Shetty’s clever play, strong defense and smart shot choices gave him the upper hand. His playing style reminded many of Denmark’s Viktor Axelsen – tall, aggressive and in full control.

Even when Shetty had a minor knee injury during the match, he stayed calm and focused, finishing the game strongly to bag the title.

Meet Ayush Shetty, India’ new badminton star

Ayush Shetty is a promising young Indian badminton player born on May 3, 2005, hailing from Sanoor near Karkala in Karnataka. 

He began playing badminton around the age of eight, inspired and coached initially by his father in their backyard. Recognising his talent early, his family supported his move to Bengaluru to access better training facilities and coaching, which helped him develop into a competitive player on the national and international stages.

Shetty is known for his powerful offensive game, strategic play and calm demeanor on court. His rise is seen as a beacon of hope for Indian badminton as the country looks to build a new generation of stars following the retirement or decline of previous stalwarts. 

With his youth, skill and recent successes, Shetty is widely regarded as a future contender for major international titles and a key figure in India’s badminton landscape.

Shetty’s impressive career so far

Shetty’s career highlights include winning the bronze medal in the boys’ singles event at the 2023 World Junior Championships held in Spokane, USA, marking him as one of India’s notable young talents in badminton. 

He also won the Denmark Junior International in 2021 and secured runner-up positions at the Odisha Masters Super 100 (2023), Bahrain International Challenge (2023), and Dutch Open (2024).
