Former India cricketer Virender Sehwag offered valuable advice to 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who became the youngest player in IPL history to make his debut. Vaibhav played for Rajasthan Royals (RR) against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), scoring a solid 34 runs with two boundaries and three sixes. However, he struggled in his next match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), getting out for 16 off 12 balls.

Sehwag’s advise to young player

Sehwag advised Vaibhav to stay grounded after the early attention following his debut. He warned against the common pitfall of players who perform well early on but fade away, believing they’ve already become stars. “If you understand that you’ll be praised for doing well and criticised for not doing well, you’ll stay humble. I’ve seen many players who shine for a couple of matches and then disappear, thinking they’ve already made it,” Sehwag shared on Cricbuzz.

Learn from Kohli

Sehwag also urged Suryavanshi to look up to Virat Kohli as an example, noting that Kohli’s longevity in the IPL, starting at 19 and playing in all 18 seasons, should be the goal. “Vaibhav should aim to play for 20 years in the IPL. If he becomes satisfied with his debut performance, thinking he’s now a crorepati, we may not see him next season,” Sehwag warned.
