Sourav Ganguly, former Indian cricket captain, is nothing short of self-expansion in every direction possible. Bulging with achievements as a player, administrator, and influencer, Ganguly is now set to hit the screens as an actor. It’s in promotional material for Netflix’s web series, ‘Khakee: The Bengal Chapter’, that he has to show another facet to his versatile career-as a police officer.

During the clip, when the director wanted the actor to show aggression, he drew from his very lengthy and tumultuous history with former India coach Greg Chappell. This incident is reminiscent of the well-publicized feud between the two, which took place during one of the most stormy periods in Indian cricket in the mid-2000s. All eyes were glued upon the team during Chappell’s tenure as coach when Ganguly brought to the notice of the public the adverse effects that Chappell’s management of the team had on the players’ morale and performance.

This resulted in Ganguly’s ouster as captain, followed by his exclusion from the Indian team. The replacement captain was Rahul Dravid, and for a while, it looked uncertain as to what the future held for Ganguly in international cricket. After failing to deliver on the job by his successors, however, Ganguly made a strong comeback when he was named in the Indian squad for the 2007 Cricket World Cup. One of the most talked-about controversies in Indian cricket has indeed left the public agitated and has instigated debates in Ganguly’s backyard, West Bengal.

In the promotional video, after an emotional and tense scene, he will take down a gang of criminals in an attempt to show off Ganguly as the newest on-screen person. His act could be suggestive of the latent passion and ferocity that marked his playing days, particularly in his standoffs with Chappell.

Recently, he was appointed as Director of Cricket for the JSW Group, which co-owns the Delhi Capitals franchise in IPL and in the Women’s Premier League. This appointment comes at the right moment as JSW and GMR have come together to build a major partnership for managing several teams under the Delhi Capitals franchise.
