Indian cricketer Virat Kohli’s presence in the upcoming ODI matches has become uncertain. According to a report by RevSportz, the Men’s Senior Selection Committee and its head, Ajit Agarkar, tried to inquire about Kohli’s plans. However, a “lack of communication” from the player’s side has added to the “pessimism” regarding his ODI future.
Virat Kohli already announced his retirement from Tests earlier this year in May. He also retired from the T20I format on a high note after India won the 2024 T20 World Cup.
BCCI on Kohli and Rohit
In addition, the RevSportz report mentioned that the BCCI wanted Rohit Sharma and Kohli to play in a 50-over match for India A against Australia A as part of their preparation. The expectation of them joining was high, as Kohli had not played any cricket since IPL 2025. However, neither Rohit nor Kohli was named in the India A squad.
Shreyas Iyer’s withdrawal
Separately, Shreyas Iyer decided to step down as the team’s captain just hours before the second First-Class match between India A and Australia A. Iyer’s decision was cited as personal, leading the team management to name Dhruv Jurel as the India A skipper.
“Yes, Shreyas is taking a break and has returned to Mumbai. He has informed the selectors that he won’t be able to play in the second four-day match against Australia A. However, he remains in fray for a spot in the middle-order when the selectors meet to pick the squad for the West Indies series,” reported Times of India, citing a source.
While Shreyas Iyer featured in the first India A match against Australia A, his performance was disappointing, with scores of just 8 and 13. He also appeared to be the victim of a poor umpiring call. Despite Iyer’s struggles, the India A team performed well, scoring 531 runs in response to Australia A’s 532.
