Spain vs England EURO 2024 Final: ‘Three Lions’ suffered a heartbreak once again as Spain beat England 2-1 to win UEFA European Championship 2024 for a record fourth time in Berlin on Sunday. The pain of losing a near-miss finale was written on the faces of English players and dominant Spain remains the undisputed king of European football.

The Euro loss adds to the decades-long wait for the ‘Three Lions’. In a somber message for Harry Kane & squad, King Charles told them to “hold their heads high” even though the win “eluded” them.

In a post-match interview with ITV, English captain Harry Kane said second consecutive loss in the tournament for the Three Lions will “hurt for a long time”. “It’s hard to put into words how we’re all feeling right now… We did well to get back into the game and struggled to build on that,” Kane added.

Oyarzabal, a backup striker who replaced captain Alvaro Morata, slid in to poke home a left-wing cross from Marc Cucurella just when the game at Berlin’s Olympiastadion seemed headed for extra time. England, the birthplace of soccer, remains without a major men’s title since their 1966 World Cup victory.

Their players watched dejectedly as Morata lifted the silver trophy amid confetti and fireworks inside the stadium built for the 1936 Olympics. Spain’s 2024 title adds to their previous wins in 1964, 2008, and 2012.

Spain is back as a major player in senior soccer after winning both the Women’s World Cup — also against England — and the men’s UEFA Nations League in 2023.

Since 2001, Spanish men’s teams have won 23 consecutive major finals in club and international soccer. It was a great sporting day for the nation, with Carlos Alcaraz winning the Wimbledon men’s singles title for a second straight year hours before the Euro 2024 final.
