Two old rivals in the cricket world – India and Pakistan – are all set to face each other at Nassau International Cricket Stadium, New York in the ongoing T20 World Cup group match today. India is riding high on the win against Ireland, while on the other hand, Pakistan tasted a surprising defeat to the USA.

The forever-going comparison between India’s Virat Kohli and Pakistan’s captain Babar Azam is one of the favourite topics of discussion among the fans. Among the most noticeable names, former Pakistani cricketer Danish Kaneria also shared his thoughts on this Babar vs Virat debate.

Voicing his strong opinion, Kaneria asserted that Babar Azam’s achievements and skill level do not compare to those of Virat Kohli. Kaneria particularly highlighted a match where Azam, despite starting strong, failed to carry his team through a crucial phase against the USA. He criticized Azam’s inability to handle the USA’s bowlers and his dismissal after scoring 40 runs, which Kaneria deemed critical to Pakistan’s performance.

“Whenever Babar Azam scores a century, the next day you’ll see comparisons with Virat Kohli. But he is not even equal to Virat’s shoes,” Kaneria told IANS. He added, “The USA bowlers had him stuck; he was unable to play them effectively. As soon as he reached around 40 runs, he got out. He should have stayed and won the game. Pakistan should have won that game one-sided.”

Looking ahead to the India-Pakistan match, Kaneria predicted a decisive victory for India. He criticised the Pakistani team’s over-reliance on their bowling strength, noting, “India will beat them badly. They are not capable of beating India. Whenever Pakistan come to the World Cup, they keep praising their bowling and claim it will win them the game. But that was the reason they lost the first game,” Kaneria remarked.
