After a brilliant win against the USA, the Indian team has secured a place in the Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup. However, the Indian team’s practice session at Central Broward Regional Park in Fort Lauderdale was cancelled when Team India was all set to face Canada in their final Group A match on Saturday in Florida, according to reports.
The practice was called out due to heavy rain and flooding in the city. Fort Lauderdale has experienced significant rainfall and cloud cover over the past few days, impacting scheduled activities.
On Friday, the USA is scheduled to play against Ireland, with both teams vying for a spot in the next round. If the match is washed out, both teams will receive a point each. This scenario would allow the USA to advance, consequently knocking Pakistan out of the tournament.
A draw would put the USA at five points, while Pakistan, even if they win their final game against Ireland, can only reach four points. Only the top two teams from each group move on to the next round.
Fort Lauderdale is set to host the final Group A matches, including the India-Canada game on Saturday. However, the persistent extreme weather conditions raise the likelihood of all matches being washed out.
Despite these uncertainties, India has already secured a spot in the next stage and is preparing to face Australia at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in St. Lucia on June 24.
According to reports, Shubman Gill and Avesh Khan will return to India after the final group game against Canada. Both players are part of the travelling reserves. Meanwhile, the other two travelling reserves, Rinku Singh and Khaleel Ahmed, will remain with the Indian cricket team for the continuation of the tournament.
