Super Smash 2025-26: New Zealand’s premier domestic T20 competition, the Super Smash, returns for its 21st edition with a packed schedule running from December 26, 2025 to January 31, 2026. A total of 32 matches will be played across just over five weeks, featuring six teams and culminating in the final at Christchurch.
Teams and history
Six teams will compete in the 2025-26 Super Smash: Auckland Aces, Canterbury Kings, Central Stags, Northern Brave, Otago Volts and Wellington Firebirds.
Auckland remain the most successful side in the tournament’s history, having lifted the title five times, while defending champions Central Stags are close behind with four Super Smash crowns to their name.
Format explained
The tournament will follow a double round-robin league format, with 30 league matches in total. Each team will face every other side twice during the league stage.
The team finishing top of the points table will progress directly to the final. The second- and third-placed teams will contest the Eliminator on January 30, with the winner advancing to the summit clash.
The final will be played on January 31, a day after the Eliminator, with both knockout matches scheduled at Hagley Oval, Christchurch.
Key league fixtures
The league phase begins on December 26 with Auckland Aces taking on Northern Brave at Seddon Park, Hamilton. The final league match of the season will see Auckland face Central Stags on January 26 at Eden Park Outer Oval, Auckland- a fixture that could prove decisive in shaping the top-three standings.
Matches will be spread across venues in Hamilton, Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin, Napier, Nelson, Alexandra and Mount Maunganui, ensuring nationwide coverage.
