Rio 2016 Olympics India Day 5 schedule: Another day, another dollar. But as far as fans of India at Olympics are concerned, their humdrum existence of daily chores, duties, responsibilities, jobs, and life in general is going as usual as can be. However, what they are pinning for is an injection of excitement a dose of triumph to get that patriotic fervour flying high. And how to do that? Well, the Indian contingent must start winning some medals! Till now we have drawn a blank. Indian sportsmen have come, marked their attendance and exited from the big stage without climbing the podium. Not even one! So, now that day 5 at the Olympic Games has dawned and a lot of the countries have raced ahead and are celebrating their gold, silver and bronze medals, Indians are being forced to look far away at the horizon, trying to get a sneak peek into what the future holds for.
Will it be a barren Olympics for India? Well, hope still floats! The Indian men’s hockey team managed to win against a marauding Argentina and at the end of the match it did not seem like they were the winners – they looked like they were glad the match was over because another 5 minutes and fortune would have deserted them. Still, a win is a win. Next we had a massive win from archer Atanu Das and boxer Vikas Krishan who entered the pre-quarterfinals. Das not only defeated his Nepalese rival Jitbahadur Muktan 6-0 but then also accounted for Cuba’s Adrian Andres Puentes Perez 6-4 to enter the pre-quarters, courtesy a last shot ‘Bull’s Eye’. Another spot of good news came from boxer Vikas Krishan (75kg) who defeated Charles Conwell to enter the pre-quarterfinals 3-0.

These were the winners for India and they have kept themselves alive to fight another day at the Olympic Games and hopefully progress further, nearer to gold medal winning positions. Among the losers for India were shooter and hot medal prospect for India, Heena Sidhu who flopped in the 25m pistol event. She could not pull herself back into the reckoning after a horror start. There are others, but why delve in the past?
