Round 1 of the Ranji Trophy games concluded, with Pondicherry upsetting Delhi with a nine-wicket win in a historic win at the Arun Jaitley stadium, Delhi. Put to bat first, Delhi couldn’t put much to the board and they were all out for 148 runs, with Gaurav Yadav star for Puducherry taking seven wickets in an innings. In response, Puducherry scored 244 in their first innings, with Hrithik Shokeen taking four scalps. 

However, Delhi couldn’t put up a fight in the second innings and collapsed at a below-par 145 while covering up the deficit of 96. For Puducherry, Abin Matthew took five wickets in the second innings, while Gaurav Yadav took 3 wickets in the second innings and the tenth wicket of the game for a man-of-the-match performance. It didn’t trouble Puducherry to chase down 51 runs in the fourth innings.

Baroda emerged winners against Odisha with a dominating first-innings lead against Baroda, with a 147-run victory. Mitesh Patil and Shashwat Rawat scored a century for Baroda in the winning cause. 

Gujarat won their game against Tamil Nadu by 111 runs. Despite staying on even scores, with Tamil Nadu leading by just 14 runs, Gujarat came back stronger in the second innings, scoring 312 runs, in response to which Tamil Nadu could only manage 187 runs. 

Vidharba won by seven wickets against Services. Mumbai dominated Bihar in their opening game too, winning by an innings and 51 runs. Despite a decent score of 251 runs in their first innings, Mumbai entered the field to dominate Bihar, bowling them out for just 100 runs in the first innings, and for the same total again the second time. Mohit Avasthi was awarded the man of the match for his performance with the ball, taking 7 wickets in the game. 

In the plate group game, Meghalaya thrashed Arunachal Pradesh by bowling out Arunachal Pradesh for 94 and scoring 504 runs in response. Kishan Lyngdoh scored a mammoth 268, with Ram Gurung scoring 132 to the cause. Arunachal could only manage 238 in the second innings, failing miserably to avoid an innings and 172 runs defeat. Sikkim also defeated Mizoram by four wickets. 

Karnataka defeated Punjab by 7 wickets, while Tripura defeated Goa by 237 runs. 

The games between Chandigarh and Railways, Haryana and Rajasthan, Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh, Bengal and Andhra, Uttar Pradesh and Kerala, Madhya Pradesh and Uttarakhand, Chandigarh and Railways, and Jharkhand and Saurashtra ended with a draw. 

Cheteshwar Pujara scored a double ton against Jharkhand, while Riyan Parag for Assam scored the second-fastest century in the history of the Ranji Trophy. However, Assam lost to Chattisgarh by 10 wickets.
