PV Ramana, father of PV Sindhu, today offered prayers at Ratnalamma Temple at West Godavari of Andhra Pradesh, ahead of his daughter final clash for a gold medal at Rio Olympics 2016. Sindhu’s father said that Goddess’ blessing will help her daughter in clinching a gold medal in the final. “Wish that with the blessings of Goddess she’ll succeed in winning the gold”, said Ramana after offering prayers at the temple.  On Thursday, Ramana said that his daughter’s real target is gold. Ramana, who was watching the live coverage of the game with his wife,  broke down after Sindhu won her semi-final game against Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara 21-19, 21-10.  The 21-year-old Sindhu will face Spain’s Carolina Marin in the Final of the women’s singles event later today.

“Everybody is proud of Sindhu, she has made the nation proud”, Ramana said after the match ended. Also crediting the coach Pullela Gopichand for victory, he said that the latter worked very hard with Sindhu. “Both she and Gopichand are working very hard, if she plays like this then she will surely win tomorrow”, he added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Pranab Mukherjee, Virat Kohli, and a host of other celebrities hailed P V Sindhu’s victory in the semi-finals of Rio Olympics, wishing  the player best of luck for the final. Sindhu will become the first athlete to win a gold medal for India at Rio if she beats Marin later tonight.
