A historic moment unfolded today as Havildar Preeti Rajak, a proficient Trap Shooter, achieved a significant milestone by being promoted to the rank of Subedar, marking her as the first woman Subedar in the Indian Army. This landmark achievement not only brings pride to the Indian Army but also serves as a shining example of Nari Shakti.

Having joined the Indian Army’s Corps of Military Police on 22 Dec 2022, Subedar Preeti Rajak’s journey began with her outstanding performance in Trap Shooting. As the first meritorious sportswoman in the Shooting discipline enlisted as a Havildar, her achievements continued to soar.

At the 19th Asian Games in 2022 in Hangzhou, China, from 21 Sep to 01 Oct 2023, Sub Preeti Rajak secured a Silver Medal in the Trap Women Team Event. Recognizing her stellar performance, she received an out-of-turn promotion to Subedar. The pipping ceremony, chaired by Lt Gen Gajendra Joshi, Commandant Infantry School, celebrated her outstanding contributions.

Currently holding the 6th rank in India in the Trap Women Event, Subedar Preeti Rajak is diligently training at the Army Marksmanship Unit (AMU) for the Paris Olympic Games in 2024. Her groundbreaking achievement serves as an inspiration for young women, motivating them to join the Indian Army and make a mark in professional shooting. 

In parallel recognition of merit, Padmashri and Arjuna Awardee Subedar Major & Honorary Lieutenant Jitu Rai were promoted to the rank of Subedar Major & Honorary Captain for his commendable service.

This historic moment not only solidifies Subedar Preeti Rajak’s position as a trailblazer but also reflects the Indian Army’s commitment to recognizing and promoting exceptional talent within its ranks.
