In the ongoing Paris Paralympics, India has made history with a total tally of 20 medals crossing the mark of 19 medals in the Tokyo Paralympics in 2021. The 20 medals constitute three gold, seven silver, and ten bronze medals. The medal tally skyrocketed on Monday and Tuesday when the Indian players won 13 medals taking it to 20. In the Tokyo edition, India won 19 medals including five gold, eight silver, and six bronze medals. However, the hopes are high for Paris Paralympics as India has already won 20 medals within six days and the game is to continue till September 8.

Paris Paralympics performance 2024

On Tuesday, Deepthi Jeevanji, Sharad Kumar, Mariyappan Thangavelu, Ajeet Singh, and Sundar Gurjar clinched medals. Bhagyashri Mahavrao and Avani Lekhara finished 5th in the Women’s Shot Put – F34 Final and Women’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions SH1 Final respectively. Deepthi Jeevanji bagged a bronze medal in the women’s 400m T20 final. In the men’s javelin throw F46, Ajeet Singh and Sundar Gurjar delivered an overwhelming performance and secured Silver and bronze medals respectively.

Shard Kumar got a silver medal in the Men’s high jump T63 while Mariyappan Thangavelu got a bronze medal in the same category. Sharad made a paralympic record in the T42 category with a jump of 1.88 meters and Mariyappan secured the bronze medal with a 1.85-meter jump.

The significant achievement symbolizes India’s surging capabilities in para-sports and with more days to pass and events to take place, the nation is hopeful of an increased medal tally. The Paris Paralympics will be remembered as a landmark achievement and an inspiration for Indian sportsmen to perform at their best and win for the country.
