In a surprise move, Pakistani talismanic fast bowler Mohammad Amir has come out of retirement, making himself available for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. Amir, who retired from all forms of international cricket in 2021, has been a prominent figure in franchise T20 leagues worldwide.

Taking to social media, the 31-year-old expressed his readiness to represent Pakistan again, citing positive discussions with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

“I still dream to play for Pakistan! life brings us to points where at times we have to reconsider our decisions. After positive discussions with the PCB and consultations with family and well-wishers, I declare that I am available for consideration for the upcoming T20WC,” Amir said in a post on X.

He emphasised his commitment to play for his country again and said, “Donning the green jersey and serving my country has always been, and will continue to be, my greatest aspiration.”

Good run in domestic league

The left-arm pacer recently participated in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) for the Quetta Gladiators, showcasing his skills by claiming 10 wickets in 9 matches at an economy rate of 8.41.

Before his retirement, Amir represented Pakistan in 50 T20Is, where he took 59 wickets with an economy rate of 7.02. His last international T20I appearance was in August 2020 against England.

Amir’s decision follows Imad Wasim’s reversal of retirement, adding depth to Pakistan’s T20 World Cup squad. It is worth noting that Amir’s career was interrupted in 2010 when he was banned from cricket due to his involvement in a spot-fixing scandal.

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 commences on 1 June in the West Indies and the USA. Pakistan’s campaign kicks off against hosts USA on 6 June, followed by a highly anticipated match against India on 9 June.
