The quarterfinals earlier this week delivered high drama and set the stage for today’s star-studded semifinals.

Félix Auger-Aliassime produced one of the performances of his career, upsetting No. 8 seed Alex de Minaur in four tight sets, 4-6, 7-6(7), 7-5, 7-6(4). Top seed Jannik Sinner looked imperious in his clash with fellow Italian Lorenzo Musetti, cruising through 6-1, 6-4, 6-2.

Novak Djokovic, the No. 7 seed, was tested by Taylor Fritz but came through in four sets, 6-3, 7-5, 3-6, 6-4. And Carlos Alcaraz, seeded second, showed little mercy in dispatching Jiří Lehečka 6-4, 6-2, 6-4.

Together, those results narrowed the draw to the final four contenders now battling for a place in the US Open final.

The much-anticipated semifinal between Djokovic and Alcaraz will begin shortly at New York’s Arthur Ashe Stadium. Meanwhile, the women’s doubles concluded with Gabriela Dabrowski and Erin Routliffe lifting the trophy.

When Djokovic last faced Alcaraz, in the Australian Open quarterfinals in January, Alcaraz struck first but Djokovic struck harder, turning a lost opening set into a four-set masterclass. The Serbian veteran weathered an early setback before methodically dismantling the Spaniard 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-4.

The women’s semifinals delivered every bit of drama fans hoped for — and then some. Both clashes went the distance, decided by the narrowest of margins.

Top seed Aryna Sabalenka battled back after dropping the first set to No. 4 seed Jessica Pegula, eventually grinding out a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory. In the other thriller, Amanda Anisimova outlasted former champion Naomi Osaka in a seesaw contest, edging through 6-7(4), 7-6(3), 6-3.

The results set the stage for a blockbuster final on Arthur Ashe Stadium: the reigning US Open champion against the home favorite.

But even that flicker of resistance was quickly snuffed out, with the Frenchman taking just three points as the No. 2 seed powered through in straight sets.

Now, the 22-year-old Spaniard stands on the brink of another career milestone. If he can topple Novak Djokovic in their much-anticipated semifinal, Alcaraz will return to the US Open final for the first time since lifting the trophy in 2022.

At 38, Djokovic has already rewritten the record books by becoming the oldest man ever to reach all four grand slam semi-finals in a single season. Now, the Serbian legend is chasing a record 25th major title — but standing in his way is a familiar obstacle.

Djokovic has often found his path blocked by Alcaraz and fellow young gun Jannik Sinner, but the Serbian insists he’s ready to “mess up the plans of many” for another Alcaraz–Sinner final.

President Donald Trump will not be coming for today’s semifinal games. He will, however, attend Sunday’s men’s final of the US Open, returning to a tournament he once frequently attended for the first time in a decade. The White House confirmed the visit Thursday night. Trump is expected to make a daytrip to Queens, New York, and return to Washington after the match.
