Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL): The biggest, brightest extravaganza of T20 cricket – the Indian Premier league is all set to start from tomorrow. The blockbuster season will begin with a high-octane CSK vs RCB match at reach qualifiers. IPL 2024: What is the meaning of playoffs?

At the start of the IPL season, all ten teams will play with each other. These games are known as league matches. Each team will play 14 league matches. All teams will earn points based on their performances and other factors such as NRR among others. Those who get top four rankings in the IPL 2024 points table will qualify for the playoffs.

Qualification to IPL playoffs

The first phase of the IPL will conclude when all teams have played their league matches. Those that are in number 1 and number 2 positions will play against each other. This match will be known as Qualifier 1. The team that emerges as winner in Qualifier 1 will qualify to reach the grand finale of IPL 2024. 

IPL 2024: What’s Qualifier 2 

The team that loses Qualifier 1 gets another chance at the finale spot. The losing team of Qualifier 1 will play another match, which will be known as Qualifier 2. 

IPL 2024: What’s Eliminator?

Remember, four teams will qualify for the playoffs. The ones at number 3 and number 4 will play against each other. This match will be known as IPL Eliminator. The team that wins Eliminator will go to Qualifier 2. This team will face the loser of Qualifier 1. 

IPL 2024: Grand Finale

While the winner of Qualifier 1 will qualify to the finale. The team that wins Qualifier 2 will earn a finale spot.
