Days after postponing the remaining matches of IPL 2021 session, BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla on Saturday said that the remaining matches of the T20 league will be played in UAE. “IPL has been moved to UAE for this season,” Rajeev Shukla was quoted as saying by news agency ANI. Earlier, the Indian Premier League Governing Council (IPL GC) and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) held and emergency meet and unanimously decided to suspend the league indefinitely after several players were tested positive for Covid-19.

According to reports, the matches are expected to be held in the months of September or October this year.

The decision was taken during the Special General Meeting of the BCCI. The meeting was held virtually and lasted for around 50 minutes. According to a senior state association member, members were unanimous in their approval for holding matches in UAE.


“The SGM approved the decision to hold the remaining matches of IPL between September and October. The dates will be intimated later,” the official was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

IPL 2021 was suspended on May 4 after several coronavirus cases were reported within the bio-bubble.

Without mentioning the coronavirus situation, the official said that it is the time of retreating monsoon in India during the month of September and therefore it would be easier to conduct matches in UAE.

A discussion was also held on the conducting T20 World Cup in India in the last week of October. However, no decision was taken.

“The health condition in India doesn’t allow us to take any decision right now. The BCCI representatives will be seeking time till July 1 to take a final decision on this. A meeting will be held to decide whether or not to host World T20.”
