It’s two in two for Sunrisers Hyderabad at their home ground in Uppal as Pat Cummins and co beat defending champions Chennai Super Kings by six wickets in match 18 of Tata IPL 2024 on Friday. This is the second victory for the ‘Orange Army’ at Uppal.

Last time, they had defeated Mumbai Indians in record-breaking match at their home ground – Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. Amid sea of yellow, there was an orange bloom with the home team first restricting the visitors to a sub-par total of 165 and then hammering the CSK bowlers in the fiery chase. 

Winning toss, Cummins decided to bowl first. Unlike the red-soil pitch that we saw during the SRH vs MI match, the Friday match was played on a black-soil pitch. It was far slower and SRH took full advantage of it. There were some exceptions such as Ajinkya Rahane and Shivam Dube. But overall, the CSK batting was not able to do much in face of sustained disciplined bowling by SRH. Chasing a target of 166, SRH managed to finish the game with six wickets in hands and 11 balls to spare.

Abhishek Sharma’s stormy knock of 37 off 12 deliveries gave a powerful start to SRH in their chase. They had put a quick 78 on the board within the powerplay. Despite this, CSK did drag the match till the very end. But that winning shot by Nitish Kumar Reddy sealed the deal.
