IPL 2026 Players Auction HIGHLIGHTS: A total of 369 players went under the hammer as all 10 franchises looked to fine-tune their squads at the IPL 2026 mini-auction, which concluded in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday. The standout moment of the day was Cameron Green’s Rs 25.20 crore move to Kolkata Knight Riders, making him the most expensive overseas purchase in IPL history. KKR further bolstered their line-up by signing Matheesha Pathirana for Rs 18 crore.

Another major theme of the auction was the rise of uncapped Indian players, who dominated bidding proceedings. Uttar Pradesh’s Prashant Veer was snapped up by Chennai Super Kings for Rs 14.20 crore, while Jammu & Kashmir all-rounder Auqib Dar earned a Rs 8.40 crore deal from Delhi Capitals. Kartik Sharma also fetched Rs 14.20 crore, with CSK securing his services to complete a remarkable day for domestic talent.

At the start of the auction, franchises had 77 slots to fill, including 31 overseas positions, setting the stage for one of the most competitive mini-auctions in recent years. There was also keen interest in whether any bid would surpass Rishabh Pant’s Rs 27 crore record, set at last year’s mega auction by Lucknow Super Giants, a mark that ultimately remained intact.

Big purse gives KKR flexibility at auction table

Three-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders entered the auction with one of the strongest financial positions. The Shah Rukh Khan-owned franchise had a purse of Rs 64.30 crore, allowing them to go all out for Green before completing a marquee signing in Pathirana.

CSK eye rebuild after disappointing 2025 season

Five-time champions Chennai Super Kings were among the most active sides after enduring their worst-ever IPL campaign in 2025, finishing bottom of the points table. With Rs 43.40 crore available and nine slots to fill, CSK engaged in a bidding war with KKR for Green before spending over Rs 28 crore on two uncapped Indians- Prashant Veer, viewed as a potential long-term successor to Ravindra Jadeja, and Kartik Sharma.

In contrast, Mumbai Indians, the league’s most successful franchise with five titles, had limited room for manoeuvre, heading into the auction with just Rs 2.75 crore. While this restricted their spending, MI still managed to add experience by signing Quinton de Kock for Rs 1 crore.

With the auction now complete, franchises will turn their focus to striking the right balance between star power and squad depth as preparations begin for the IPL 2026 season.

That could well make him one of the capped Indian players to watch out for at the auction.

IPL Auction 2026 Abu Dhabi Live: Numbers that kept Green in demand

When Mumbai Indians secured Cameron Green for Rs 17.5 crore ahead of the 2023 IPL season, franchise owner Akash Ambani spoke about the “lifetime value” the Australian allrounder could bring to the five-time champions. Although Green was traded to Royal Challengers Bengaluru just a year later as part of the deal that brought Hardik Pandya back to Mumbai Indians, the 2023 season underlined his versatility and impact.

During his debut IPL campaign with MI, Green was used across multiple batting positions, including at the top of the order. He finished the season with 452 runs at a strike rate of 160.28 and an impressive average of 50.22, highlighted by a century and two half-centuries.

His stint with RCB in 2024 saw a slightly different role. Green featured in 13 matches, scoring 255 runs at an average of 31.87 and a strike rate of 143.25. With the ball, he claimed 10 wickets at an economy rate of 8.61, an improvement on his bowling numbers from his time at MI, where he took six wickets at 9.07 runs per over.

Green missed the 2025 mega auction due to injury, but a year later, the 26-year-old is expected to be one of the marquee names at the IPL 2026 mini auction. With both Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings holding sizeable purses and actively looking to strengthen their overseas allrounder options, Green is set to be a central figure when bidding begins.

IPL Auction 2026 Abu Dhabi Live: CSK or KKR- who will go all in for Cameron Green?

It would be interesting to see who goes all in for Cameron Green- whether it would be Chennai Super Kings (CSK) or Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), the two teams who have the purse to target a player any player they want. Green could fit both their requirements too but usually the Men in Yellow stay away from breaking their banks for a particular player. Will they adopt a similar approach today?

IPL Auction 2026 Live: Not everything happens at the auction table

CSK, for example, managed to rope in Sanju Samson outside of the auction. In turn, they had to give Sam Curran and Ravindra Jadeja to RR. The deal is being touted as the one of the most blockbuster deals in the Indian Premier League (IPL) history. It would not be an understatement to say that the making of a team starts long before the actual auction.
