Less than 60 minutes to go for the scheduled start of the auction. It might well be a weekday but fans are eagerly waiting to know who goes for how much and how their teams’ final squad will look like heading into another season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction.

IPL Auction 2026 is all set to get underway at 02:30 pm (IST). That means we are less than 90 minutes away from the start of the bidding war in Abu Dhabi. Brace yourselves for what promises to be a roller-coaster of an event.

Ravi Bishnoi can also fetch big bucks. An Indian quality spinner in Bishnoi could well be on the wishlist of multiple franchises. The leg-spinner is a wicket-taking option and will add immense value to any team that he plies his trade for. That could well make him one of the capped Indian players to watch out for at the auction.

The existing record for the most expensive pick at an IPL auction belongs to Rishabh Pant. The left-handed wicketkeeper-batter went to the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for Rs 27 crore. It would be interesting to see if any player is able to get a bid that goes past that number in the auction in Abu Dhabi today.

Domestic talent can attract a high bid too this auction in Abu Dhabi. Who knows whether it would be a certain Prithvi Shaw or a relatively lesser known Kartik Sharma or Auqib Nabi who goes for the big bucks at the auction.

When Mumbai Indians secured Cameron Green for Rs 17.5 crore ahead of the 2023 IPL season, franchise owner Akash Ambani spoke about the “lifetime value” the Australian allrounder could bring to the five-time champions. Although Green was traded to Royal Challengers Bengaluru just a year later as part of the deal that brought Hardik Pandya back to Mumbai Indians, the 2023 season underlined his versatility and impact.

During his debut IPL campaign with MI, Green was used across multiple batting positions, including at the top of the order. He finished the season with 452 runs at a strike rate of 160.28 and an impressive average of 50.22, highlighted by a century and two half-centuries.

His stint with RCB in 2024 saw a slightly different role. Green featured in 13 matches, scoring 255 runs at an average of 31.87 and a strike rate of 143.25. With the ball, he claimed 10 wickets at an economy rate of 8.61, an improvement on his bowling numbers from his time at MI, where he took six wickets at 9.07 runs per over.

Green missed the 2025 mega auction due to injury, but a year later, the 26-year-old is expected to be one of the marquee names at the IPL 2026 mini auction. With both Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings holding sizeable purses and actively looking to strengthen their overseas allrounder options, Green is set to be a central figure when bidding begins.

It would be interesting to see who goes all in for Cameron Green- whether it would be Chennai Super Kings (CSK) or Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), the two teams who have the purse to target a player any player they want. Green could fit both their requirements too but usually the Men in Yellow stay away from breaking their banks for a particular player. Will they adopt a similar approach today?

CSK, for example, managed to rope in Sanju Samson outside of the auction. In turn, they had to give Sam Curran and Ravindra Jadeja to RR. The deal is being touted as the one of the most blockbuster deals in the Indian Premier League (IPL) history. It would not be an understatement to say that the making of a team starts long before the actual auction.

The BCCI has made several last minute additions to the auction list, taking the total number of players who be auctioned today to 369. As many as 19 players were added less than 24 hours before the start of the event. These include Bengal batter Abhimanyu Easwaran, Zimbabwe pacer Blessing Muzarabani, South Africa’s Kyle Verreynne and Ethan Bosch among others.
