Nicholas Pooran scored an amazing knock of 87 not out off 36 balls against Kolkata Knight Riders at the historic Eden Gardens on Tuesday, propelling Lucknow Super Giants to a commanding total in the IPL 2025. Through this scorching innings, Pooran emerged as the fifth West Indies player to hit over 2,000 runs in the Indian Premier League. He becomes one of Chris Gayle, Kieron Pollard, Dwayne Smith, and Andre Russell in having accomplished the same.
The foundation for Pooran’s fireworks was laid by openers Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram, who set the tone early. Marsh, who scored the most with 81 runs, and Markram, who scored 47 off 28 balls, gave solidity up top, contributing a solid 99-run stand. This paved the way for Pooran to walk in and dominate as soon as he took strike.
Pooran wasted no time, thrashing his half-century off 21 balls, his fourth-fastest half-century for Lucknow in the tournament. In spite of wickets tumbling at the other end, Pooran played his own free-flowing game, scoring seven boundaries and eight sixes, and maintaining a staggering strike rate of 241.67.
Though Marsh for a brief period of time took Orange Cap away from Pooran, Pooran once again stood in first position to the title for the highest run-scorer in IPL 2025 with a season’s total of 288 runs.
In a strategic ploy, Lucknow captain Rishabh Pant moved down the order, releasing Abdul Samad and David Miller before him to provide the team with additional firepower. This proved fruitful as Pooran continued to plunder, taking Lucknow to a total of 238/3 in their 20 allotted overs.
This aggregate of 238 runs is a big milestone for LSG, with Pooran’s blistering innings being one of the major highlights of their comprehensive win. The team will be very happy with their performance as they seek to carry on their good run in IPL 2025.
