Shortly before the beginning of IPL 2025, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have officially appointed Ajinkya Rahane as their captain, with Venkatesh Iyer taking on the role of vice-captain. The two-time IPL winners, who claimed the 2024 title, will begin their title defense on March 22 against Rajat Patidar-led Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Eden Gardens.
Rahane, who previously played for KKR in 2022, expressed his excitement on social media platform X, saying, “Honored and excited to lead KKR in the upcoming IPL season! Looking forward to the challenge and giving it our all. Korbo Lorbo Jeetbo.”
KKR secured Rahane for Rs 1.50 crore at the mega auction in Jeddah last year, banking on his experience and leadership. Meanwhile, the franchise reaffirmed its trust in Venkatesh Iyer, naming him vice-captain after repurchasing him for a staggering Rs 23.75 crore. Iyer, a key player for KKR since 2021, has been instrumental in their recent success.
