Carrying their good form from 2016, Indian Test team under the leadership of Virat Kohli started off in style in their first Test match of 2017 against Bangladesh by dominating the first two days. By the time Virat kohli declared the innings, India had managed to put 687 runs on board for the loss of 6 wickets. 1. Virat Kohli’s unique feat: As the Indian captain Virat Kohli completed his 200th run, he became the first batsman in the history of Test cricket to score double centuries in four consecutive Test series. Kohli surpassed Australian legend Sir Don Bradman and former Indian captain Rahul Dravid who scored double centuries in 3 back to back series.

2. Cheteshwar Pujara betters 53-year-old record: During his knock of 83 runs Pujara surpassed the 53-year long standing record of former Indian cricketer Chandu Borde of most first-class runs in a single cricketing season. Borde had scored 1604 runs in the 1964-65 season while Pujara already has 1605 runs to his name with 4 Tests against Australia yet to be played.

3. Virender Sehwag’s record broken: Enroute his double century, 28-year-old Indian captain also broke Virender Sehwag’s decade old record for most Test runs in an Indian season. Sehwag scored 1105 runs in 2004/05 season which Kohli surpassed on Day 2.

4. India’s love for 600 runs: India scored 687 runs against Bangladesh and became the first side to score more than 600 runs in three consecutive Tests. India also equalled West Indies (9) for most number of 650 plus scores and is only behind Australia now who have achieved this feat 14 times.

5. Second most centuries as Indian captain: Virat Kohli has scored 9 Test tons as Indian captain equalling Mohammad Azharuddin and is only behind Sunil Gavaskar now. He also has second most double centuries (4) as captain in international cricket and is only behind Brian Lara (5).
