India vs South Africa 4th T20I HIGHLIGHTS: India and South Africa fourth T20I at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on Wednesday (December 17) was abandoned without a ball being bowled due to excessive fog in Lucknow.
First round of inspection was held at 06:50 pm but the conditions were deemed unfit with the umpires having a second look at fog at 07:30 pm. The umpires assessed the conditions again at 08:00 pm before scheduling another inspection at 08:30 pm. While experts including Robin Uthappa felt that it would be difficult to get a match in, umpires slated another inspection at 09:00 pm.
Even at 9, the umpires said that they will be back for another round of inspection at 09:25 pm before they finally decided to call off the match.

Talking about the series, the Men in Blue won the series opener in Cuttack by 101 runs, the Proteas bounced back strongly to win the second match by 51 runs. Suryakumar Yadav’s men returned to winning ways in Dharamsala to take a 2-1 lead in the series. A called off match in Lucknow means India can no longer lose the match.
Shubman Gill ruled out due to foot injury
While India looked in invincible form in the shortest format of the game since the T20 World Cup, off late several issues have emerged. With the team management looking to Shubman Gill as the potential all-format captain of the future, he has been named the vice-captain of the side. However, with runs deserting him questions have started to be raised over his place in the side. Gill, however, has been ruled out of remainder of the series with a foot injury and Sanju Samson is likely to replace him in the Playing XI in the fifth and final T20I in Ahmedabad on Friday (December 19).
Suryakumar Yadav has looked a pale shadow of himself
Similarly, skipper Suryakumar Yadav too has been far from the world-fearing Mr.360 that fans have come to know him. He has been short of runs lately and Team India would be hoping that both their stars roar back to form ahead of the T20 World Cup in February next year. With the IND-SA 4th T20I called off, Suryakumar will have the final T20I of the series and the New Zealand series to regain his lost rhythm.

Even though India looked pretty much in invincible form in T20Is since 2024, off later certain form issues are pretty apparent. Suryakumar Yadav and Shubman Gill both have struggled to get going and it would be interesting to see how many more chances will the team to give Gill especially with players like Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sanju Samson waiting in the wings.
